P5 Time to Read Trip to Parliament Buildings and Stormont Castle
Every year a selection of boys and girls from P5 are lucky enough to take part in a reading programme called Time to Read. Volunteers from local businesses come into our school and read with the children, building on their self confidence and reading ability. At the end of the school year the Time to Read children and their adult volunteers take a trip to Parliament buildings. We got to visit the Assembly Chamber and even got to sit in the first minister and deputy first ministers chairs. We met our local MLA Kelly Armstrong and she told us how everything works in the assembly. Some of us even got to try to pass some new legislation and laws! As VIP guests we got to visit Stormont Castle and had a guided tour of the building. It was very impressive and even reminded us of Hogwarts.
